Comedy, Wine and Music Festival

Grapes of Mirth heads to Newcastle for the first time! Get ready for 7 hours of comedy, music, wine, gourmet grub and good times. Six of Australia's best comedians, and of course your host, Merrick Watts.

It's the ultimate chill-out day with some sweet DJ tunes by DJ Pedro Moshman and Virgil Reality on Trumpet to keep you entertained before, between, and after the comedy has ended. Only the best local wines, locally produced beer and cider, and plenty of gourmet grub on offer.

What you need to know

Where: The Station, Cnr Scott St and Watt St, Newcastle

When: Saturday 11 May 2019

Time: 2pm to 9pm

Star of "Orange is the New Brown" and survivor of "I'm a celebrity get me out of here", Naz is one of the most likeable comedians in the biz and after seeing his Festival show recently we were all unanimous in saying "We have to get Naz to Newcastle". Super funny, utterly engaging and adored by punters and comedians alike. Don't miss his set!

A hilarious veteran of the comedy world, Denise has appeared on countless Australian T.V shows. Scotty is currently co-host of Network 10's "Studio 10", the voice of Nine's "Travel Guides", and she recently strutted her stuff on "Dancing With The Stars"; this is a career that takes no backward steps!

Oh, oh, Chopper's back! Heath Franklin's Chopper returns after more than a year since his last Grapes of Mirth appearance (Prison?). Chopper is a crowd favourite and we can't wait for people to see him chop his way through a comedy power set.

She's a comedian, actor, and a superstar of improvisation; the first female in history to be named 'Player of the Tournament' at the Improv World Cup in Montreal. She's a bloody comedy tornado, and we can't wait to welcome her to her first Grapes of Mirth!

Returns to us for the first time in 2019. Luke has just finished another season of his incredibly successful T.V show "Rosehaven" and is jumping onto the Grapes of Mirth bandwagon for Newey. Luke is effortlessly funny and is a joy to see live on stage.

The loosest of units is coming back to Newcastle and to Grapes of Mirth. Sam Simmons is an award winning comedian and television personality. See him before he quits comedy to become a zookeeper (that’s actually a possibility).

Merrick is a Grapes of Mirth addict, and the McLaren Vale Wine region is his favourite. In fact any wine region. In fact, any wine. In short, he has a problem.

Known as the 6th member of the Golden Girls, Pedro will have you dancing your feet off as Grapes of Mirth's resident DJ spinning out classics all afternoon. His hair is the real deal, some say if you touch it you will receive special magical powers (please don't touch him, he will growl)

The Station, Newcastle
The Station

The former Newcastle Railway Station is an important state heritage listed building, and a significant component of the Revitalising Newcastle program. Following extensive community engagement, the Hunter and Central Coast Development Corporation (HCCDC) undertook significant repairs, restoration and platform infil works to provide a new lease of life to the east end precinct.

It's the perfect setting for a full day of Comedy, local Wine and Food and amazing tunes to keep you entertained.

A Music Festival like no other

DJ Pedro Moshman is no ordinary DJ, there's a reason why we take him around the country to all our Grapes of Mirth events. His 'DJ Super Powers' allow him to know what song to play, when to play it, and whom to play it for! The end result? Entertainment between comedy acts, and a dance party to finish off the day.
