The Station,
Newcastle, NSW

11 May 2019

Massive thanks to everyone who enjoyed the day with us at The Station in Newcastle – our first for the Hunter Region but not our last. A terrific crowd, perfect weather and some truly great wines on offer. Sam Simmons kicked things off and it’s always a good sign when a comedian says on stage “Would you like me to be weird or wrong?” He was both. Thank god! Rebecca De Unamuno ad-libbed some crowd participation towards the end of her set with such ability that more than one person asked “Was that a set up? Were those audience members planted?” No – she’s that good! Nazeem Hussain realising midway through his set “Am I the only brown person here?” He was also possibly the only non–drinker on the day too, so an already special comedian made even more special! One of the best blokes in the business and in cracking form right now. The sun slowly dropped in the west and the nearby fig tree came alive with the chatter of birds. This is normally a beautiful thing, but even more beautiful was Denise Scott telling them to %*$@ OFF! Denise came on to rapturous applause and left the same way! Just brilliant. So funny. Luke McGregor proved as popular off stage as on. Several Newcastle ladies seemed very attracted to our exotic red headed Tasweigan and were keen to exchange details. He’s on Tinder ladies! Luke killed as always and was grateful that he was not exposed to full sunlight. Chopper rounded out the day in typical Chopper fashion – big, bold and richly colourful, like a glass of port at the end of a good session, and Newcastle appeared to have had a good session! Massive thank you to @thestationnewcastle, John Van der Veen and his awesome team, and the wonderful Hunter Valley wineries that joined us. Till next time Amigo’s. Mez

Lineup

Nazeem Hussain has fast become one of the biggest stars of Australian comedy, and a much loved television and radio personality. Glam Adelaide reckons “This man embodies comic genius” and we couldn’t agree more.

Nazeem Hussain

Writer, actor, and one of Australia’s favourite comedians. Luke is also co-creator, co-writer, and star of the smash hit sitcom ‘Rosehaven’ with Celia Pacquola for ABC TV, for which Luke won the award for Most Popular Actor at the 2019 TV Week Logie Awards! You might have also spotted him on ABC’s ‘Utopia’ or on ‘The Weekly with Charlie Pickering’ with his ‘Lukenomics’ segment.

Luke McGregor

Scotty is quite possibly the funniest person in Australia, whether she’s touring the country with best pal Judith Lucy, joining the team on Have You Been Paying Attention?, or on stage at a winery, you are guaranteed a good time.

Denise Scott

As ‘Chopper’, Heath Franklin is an Australian cultural and comedy icon. With his own TV show, four live comedy specials, 2 ARIA nominations, 1 Logie nomination and over 500,000 tickets sold worldwide, Chopper has nearly done it all. The man behind the tatts and ‘stache, Heath Franklin, is an Australian actor, comedic performer, improviser and writer.

Heath Franklin’s ‘Chopper’

The “Merric” from Merrick and Rosso. Mez, as he is affectionately known, has worked at almost every radio and TV station in the country. You might have seen him recently getting smashed in the face on SAS Australia, Australia’s REAL reality show. Mez loves wine, so much so that he’s a qualified sommelier, with dreams of retiring to a big Chesterfield, smoking a cigar and drinking Cabernet.
